On-grid solar systems

Generate electricity for your building while staying connected to the utility grid. An on-grid system is designed primarily around electricity use and bill reduction.

How on-grid solar works

Solar panels produce DC electricity during daylight. A grid-tie inverter converts it to AC for the building. The grid supplies additional power when solar output is insufficient. Export of surplus generation requires the applicable connection, metering and utility arrangement.

Is it suitable for your requirement?

Consider on-grid solar when you have a reliable grid connection and want to reduce purchased electricity. A site review helps match the installation to your daytime use, usable roof area and connection capacity.

  • Homes, shops and offices with regular electricity consumption
  • Businesses seeking solar generation without a battery-based backup design
  • Sites with a suitable, accessible roof and an approved grid connection

Equipment and configuration

  • Solar PV modules selected by wattage, dimensions and electrical ratings
  • A compatible single-phase or three-phase grid-tie inverter
  • Mounting structure, DC and AC cabling and electrical protection
  • Earthing, surge protection and isolation provisions appropriate to the design
  • Metering and monitoring equipment included in the agreed scope

Power cuts and backup

An ordinary on-grid solar installation is not a backup power system. Its inverter disconnects when the grid fails. If you need power during outages, discuss a compatible battery and backup-capable hybrid design, or a separately designed backup arrangement.

What we review before a proposal

  • Recent electricity bills, monthly units and daytime consumption
  • Connection phase, sanctioned load and proposed capacity
  • Roof dimensions, shading, access and structural condition
  • Panel and inverter models, installation layout and cable routes
  • Generation assumptions, scope, project responsibilities and utility coordination

Planning your investment

Ask for a proposal that separates module capacity in kWp from inverter capacity in kW, and identifies the exact equipment and work included. Generation varies with weather, shading, orientation and installation conditions. Export settlement and any incentives are assessed for your location and eligibility; neither is assumed automatically.
