V SKETCH SOLAR

Off-grid solar systems

Plan an independent solar power supply around your actual loads, daily energy use and required operating hours. Off-grid design prioritises adequate generation, storage and load management.

Grid connection
Not needed for stand-alone operation
Battery storage
For night-time and stored-energy use
System sizing
Based on loads and energy demand

How off-grid solar works

A stand-alone system supplies the selected loads without relying on a utility connection. Solar generation serves daytime demand and can charge batteries for later use. Inverter and battery capacity must suit both the energy required and the maximum power drawn at one time.

Where it may fit

  • Remote homes, farms and locations where grid access is impractical
  • Independent power for a defined group of essential loads
  • Sites able to manage consumption within the designed energy budget

Build the design around the loads

Start with an appliance schedule: rated power, operating hours and whether each item is essential. Motors, pumps and compressors may need extra starting capacity. Decide what can run together and how long the selected loads must operate without solar input.

  • Daily energy requirement in kWh
  • Simultaneous demand and starting surges in kW
  • Night-time use and desired reserve period
  • Seasonal weather, usable solar area and future load additions

Equipment and storage

  • Solar modules and a suitable mounting arrangement
  • Off-grid inverter or solar power conditioning unit
  • Charge controller or integrated MPPT charging function
  • Compatible batteries, battery management and protection
  • Distribution circuits, isolators, cables, earthing and monitoring

Operating limits and reserve planning

Stored energy is finite. If demand exceeds generation and the usable battery reserve, operating time reduces and loads may need to be managed. Discuss poor-weather operation, battery charging limits and an optional generator or other reserve source where the design calls for it.

Our planning and delivery scope

  • Review your appliance list and essential-load priorities
  • Coordinate solar, inverter and usable battery sizing
  • Assess installation space, access and cable routes
  • Define the agreed supply, installation, testing and handover scope
  • Discuss battery care, monitoring and service arrangements
